Capital of Uzbekistan · international airport

Tashkent

Where every trip starts: the airport, the train station, the metro with its mosaic stations, bazaars and Soviet-modernist architecture.

Most travellers arrive in Tashkent and treat it as a transit point. Give it a day and it repays you: Chorsu Bazaar under its blue dome, the old town of Hast-Imam, one of the most beautiful metro systems in the world and a serious food scene.

What to see

Chorsu Bazaar

The city's oldest market under a huge tiled dome — plov, bread, spices, ceramics.

Hast-Imam complex

The old religious centre, home to the 7th-century Uthman Quran.

Tashkent metro

Mosaic and marble stations built as underground palaces; photography is allowed.

Independence & Amir Temur squares

Wide parks and the civic heart of the modern capital.
